Hindu College in New Delhi has topped the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings for colleges in 2024. Miranda House, which was number one last year, has moved to second place. St. Stephen's College in Delhi is now ranked third.
Last year, the top three colleges were Miranda House, Hindu College, and Presidency College in Chennai. Miranda House had also been the top college in 2022.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the NIRF Rankings 2024 with other important officials like Professor Anil Sahasrabudhe from AICTE and Sanjay Murthy from the Ministry of Education. This year, the rankings include 16 categories, up from 13 last year. New categories are state, skill, and open universities. The rankings cover areas like overall performance, colleges, research, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, and more.
IIT Madras has been ranked as the top overall institution for the sixth year in a row. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru is the best university, and IIT Madras remains the best engineering college for nine years. In management, IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta are among the top five.
The NIRF rankings assess institutions based on teaching, learning resources, research, graduation outcomes, outreach, inclusivity, and perception. This is the ninth edition of these rankings.
