On Saturday evening, heavy rain in central Delhi caused a basement at a coaching centre to flood. This led to the deaths of three students preparing for the Civil Service exams. They were Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nevin Dalvin from Kerala.
Rescuers found their bodies in the basement. Students and other people were very upset and protested outside the coaching centre, blaming the authorities for the incident.
The families of the victims said the coaching centre was careless and claimed they were not allowed to see the bodies at the hospital.
Shreya Yadav was 25 years old and had moved to Delhi to study. She had a degree in Agriculture and had joined the coaching centre in April. Her family said she had previously mentioned that the basement flooded during rain, but the institute didn’t fix the problem.
Tanya Soni, also 25, was from Secunderabad but originally from Aurangabad in Bihar. She was studying at Delhi University and had joined the coaching centre recently. Her body was sent to Aurangabad for her final rites.
Nevin Dalvin, 28, was from Ernakulam, Kerala. He had been living in Delhi for about eight months while doing a PhD at Jawaharlal Nehru University. He had visited the basement library earlier in the day.
