The Delhi government has announced a complete ban on all types of firecrackers to reduce pollution during the festive season. This ban includes both physical and online sales and will last until January 1, 2025.
Delhi's Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, explained that firecrackers worsen air pollution, especially in the winter, which harms public health. This ban is similar to last year’s, covering the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers.
The government has made a plan with the Delhi Police and other departments to strictly enforce this ban. To avoid financial losses for traders, the ban was announced early so businesses can prepare.
The government is also working on a winter action plan with 21 points to fight pollution and will start campaigns to ask citizens to help reduce pollution. Rai urged people to celebrate festivals with traditional lamps (diyas) and sweets, but in a way that protects the environment.
