The election of the Standing Committee Chairman is crucial because this position has more power than the mayor. Even though the mayor is the official head of the MCD, the chairman of the Standing Committee holds more practical influence in managing the city's affairs.

After the recent elections, there will be a need to fill a vacancy in the Standing Committee before electing the chairman and vice chairman. This process will ensure that the committee’s leadership is fully established and able to make important decisions for the city.
