The Delhi Traffic Police are planning to buy more than 300 special cameras to catch people who break traffic rules. These cameras will be placed at important spots around the city.

Out of these, 203 cameras will be used to catch people who run red lights, and they will be placed at 57 different intersections. Another 125 cameras will be used to catch people driving too fast, and they will be set up at 76 locations.

Officials said that buying these cameras will cost around Rs 95 crore. The red light cameras will be put in areas where people often run red lights. The speed cameras will be placed in less crowded areas, like on flyovers, where people tend to drive fast.

Right now, Delhi already has 209 cameras to catch red light violators and 125 cameras to catch speeders, installed in the first phase of the project. These cameras have helped make the roads safer.

However, recent data shows that while serious accidents have increased by 4%, minor accidents have decreased slightly. There have been 831 fatal accidents this year up to August 15, which is 4% more than last year when there were 799 fatal accidents in the same period.
