The Delhi Police have given a heads-up about traffic changes for the Kanwar Yatra starting 22-July-24. This annual event, which is expected to attract around two million people, involves devotees bringing water from the Ganges to offer to Lord Shiva.

Here's what you need to know:

  1. Road Closures: The Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be closed for heavy vehicles during the event. Drivers should use other routes.
  2. Traffic Diversions: Heavy trucks will be redirected away from certain roads. For example, they can’t go towards Wazirabad Road or GT Road, and will instead be sent to NH-24.
  3. Route Changes: Trucks from certain roads like Loni Road and Sonia Vihar will be redirected onto Wazirabad Road to join Outer Ring Road and NH-24.
  4. Congestion Areas: Traffic might be heavy on NH-08 and NH-24 because of the Kanwar Yatra and the setup of camps along the roads.
  5. Travel Advice: Plan your trips ahead to avoid delays. Kanwariyas will be on major roads and in some smaller areas too.
  6. Traffic Management: The police have set up measures to manage the flow of Kanwariyas and minimize disruption.
  7. Rules to Follow: Drivers should follow traffic rules and listen to the police. Traffic violations will be monitored closely.
