In New Delhi, Lt Governor V K Saxena recently launched 320 new electric buses, bringing the total number of electric buses in the city to 1,970. Saxena said this is a big step in fighting pollution in Delhi. He also mentioned that more electric buses are planned for the future to make public transport better.
Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot added that Delhi is now the city with the most electric buses in India and the third in the world. The city’s total bus fleet is now 7,683, including 1,970 electric buses and the rest are CNG buses.
These new buses will be located at three bus depots and are designed to be safe and accessible, with features like CCTV cameras and panic buttons. Delhi aims to have 80% of its buses electric by the end of 2025.
