In Bhalswa Dairy, a neighborhood in Delhi, locals are very worried because the administration has announced plans to demolish buildings in their area. On August 6, the Municipal Corporation issued a notice saying that demolition will begin in just three days. This short notice has caused a lot of distress among the dairy operators and local residents.
A big meeting, or Mahapanchayat, was held to protest against the demolition. Thousands of elderly people, women, and children took part. The administration has also threatened to cut off electricity and water services.
To respond to this, dairy operators from Bhalswa Dairy and nearby areas gathered at Durga Mandir, a local temple. They were joined by Ajesh Yadav, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Aam Aadmi Party, and a local Municipal Councilor. During the meeting, the MLA and other public representatives promised to try their best to stop the demolition until August 15.
MLA Ajesh Yadav said he will speak with Delhi government minister Gopal Rai to create a new policy that would help dairy operators. This policy could provide housing and other facilities for those running dairies in residential areas. The MLA also mentioned that they will file a petition in court on Friday to stop the demolition.
However, local people are concerned because they have already discussed this policy with Minister Gopal Rai several times, but he has not taken any action. The Municipal Corporation's notice says the demolition will proceed on August 9, which is adding to the public's anxiety.
