Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has informed Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena that Delhi’s top minister, Atishi, will raise the national flag at the Independence Day ceremony on August 15. This will happen because Kejriwal is currently in prison.
Kejriwal has been in jail since March 21, following his arrest related to problems with the 2021-22 excise policy, which was later canceled. Although he was briefly released on bail during the Lok Sabha elections in May, he is now back in jail.
Atishi was made a minister in early 2023 after the resignation of Manish Sisodia, who was also involved in the excise policy case.
Usually, Kejriwal raises the flag at the Independence Day event held at Chhatrasal Stadium. He has been doing this every year since 2015. Since Kejriwal is not available, Atishi will take his place this year.
