Reliance Jio has increased its prices for phone services starting July 3, 2024. Many users hurried to recharge their accounts with their preferred plans before the rates went up. However, Jio has stopped offering two popular prepaid plans: the Rs 395 and Rs 1559 plans.
These plans previously provided unlimited 5G data for longer periods, which users liked. The Rs 395 plan gave service for 84 days, and the Rs 1559 plan lasted for 336 days.
Due to the price increase, customers who wanted to recharge in advance couldn't find these plans on Jio's website. Although Jio allows users to queue prepaid plans for future use, these specific plans are no longer available.
The decision to discontinue these plans might be because they resulted in lower Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) for Jio.
Currently, only one affordable plan is listed. As part of the tariff adjustments, Jio has raised the price of its basic Rs 155 plan by 22%, now costing Rs 189. This plan provides 2GB of data for 28 days but does not offer 'Unlimited 5G' like the Rs 395 and Rs 1559 plans did.
This tariff hike by major telecom companies aims to increase ARPU and maintain profitability amidst the introduction of new 5G services and infrastructure investments. Many long-term users who preferred the earlier cost-effective plans are disappointed.
Reliance Jio isn't the only company raising prices; Airtel and Vodafone Idea are also increasing tariffs. Airtel's new prices start from July 3, while Vodafone Idea's will be in effect from July 4.
