Introduction of the New Feature

Microsoft has announced a new feature that makes it easier for iPhone users to share files with Windows devices. This new update will help users who have struggled with file-sharing problems due to compatibility issues between iPhones and non-Apple devices. The feature is currently available in the beta version of Microsoft’s Phone Link app.

What is Phone Link?

Phone Link is a Microsoft app that allows users to connect their iPhones or Android devices to their windows computers. With this app, users can view notifications, take calls, and now, with the new feature, share files easily between iPhones and Windows PCs.

Challenges with File Sharing

Previously, sharing files between iPhones and Windows devices was difficult because of the restrictions placed on iOS devices. But with this new update, Windows users will be able to select their iPhone as an option when sharing a file. On the iPhone, the Link to Windows app will show as a sharing extension, making it simple for users to send and receive files between their devices.

How to Share Files from iPhone to Windows PC

To share files from an iPhone to a Windows PC, users need to follow a few simple steps:

  1. Open the file or files they want to share.
  2. Tap the “share” icon.
  3. Select “Link to Windows.”
  4. Choose the Windows PC where they want to send the file.

How to Share Files from Windows PC to iPhone

To send files from a Windows PC to an iPhone, users will need to:

  1. Select the file or files they want to share on their PC.
  2. Right-click the file and click “Share.”
  3. Select “My Phone” to send the file to the iPhone.

Availability of the New Feature

However, not all users can access this feature yet. It is currently available to members of the Windows Insider Program, and users need to have iPhones running iOS 16 or later, as well as the Link to Windows app version 1.24112.73 or later. The feature will eventually be available to millions of users with Windows 10 and Windows 11, according to the blog post.
