Disney has released the first trailer for their upcoming movie, Mufasa: The Lion King, at the D23 event on August 9. This movie is a prequel to the 2019 Lion King and will tell the story of Mufasa, the famous lion who became king. The movie is set to hit theaters on December 20, 2024.
Mufasa: The Lion King will show Mufasa's journey from being an orphaned cub to becoming the king of the Pride Lands. The trailer hints that the movie will explore the relationship between Mufasa and his brother, Scar, who was once known as Taka. At first, Mufasa is not accepted by Taka’s pride, but over time, a strong bond develops between the two brothers.
Aaron Pierre will be the voice of Mufasa, while Kelvin Harrison will voice Taka/Scar. Other key characters include Sarabi, voiced by Tiffany Boone, Simba, voiced by Donald Glover, and Taka's mother, Eshe, voiced by Thandiwe Newton. The movie is directed by Barry Jenkins.
