New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson made history on Monday by delivering the most economical spell in T20 cricket. In New Zealand’s final group stage game against Papua New Guinea (PNG), Ferguson bowled his full quota of four overs without conceding a single run and took three wickets. He is now the second bowler in T20 international history, after Saad Bin Zafar, to achieve the feat of not giving away any runs in a match.
The spell significantly contributed to New Zealand ending their World Cup campaign on a high note with a 7-wicket victory over PNG.
Ferguson took the wickets of PNG captain Assad Vala, Charles Amini, and Chad Soper, delivering four maiden overs as New Zealand limited PNG to 78 runs in 19.4 overs.
In the shortest format World Cup, the previous best spell was delivered by Tim Southee, who conceded just four runs in New Zealand’s game against Uganda.
