The BCCI announced prize money of INR 125 crore for India after the T20 World Cup. Each selector got a bonus of INR 25 lakh after the 2011 World Cup.
Rohit Sharma's Team India will share almost $15 million after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday. This ended India's long wait for an ICC trophy. Rohit and his team beat South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval in Barbados, winning by seven runs.
Rohit Sharma joined MS Dhoni as the second captain to win a T20 World Cup for India. He is also the first to win it twice as both a player and captain. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, congratulated the team and announced a prize of ₹125 crore for the champions.
This amount is more than three times the bonus given to the 2011 Indian team. Under Dhoni's leadership, India won the 50-over World Cup in 2011. Each player from that team was given INR 2 crore.
The selectors received a bonus of INR 25 lakh each, and the coaching and support staff got INR 50 lakh each in 2011. In total, Rs. 39 crore was given out as an incentive after India won against Sri Lanka in the 2011 final.
The BCCI has increased the incentive to 3.2 times this year. In 2011, the BCCI first announced Rs. 1 crore for each player, but after the players expressed their displeasure, the amount was doubled to Rs. 2 crore for each player.
