The International Cricket Council (ICC) conference has started in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This year, the conference is important because India and Pakistan have tensions, and a big topic is the budget for the Champions Trophy 2025, which is planned to be held in Pakistan.
Champions Trophy 2025 Budget
The ICC is discussing how much money to spend on the Champions Trophy 2025. There have been complaints about overspending in the recent T20 World Cup, especially on a temporary stadium in New York. The budget will first be reviewed by a special committee on July 21st, led by Jay Shah from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and then it will be approved by the ICC Board.
India’s Participation Uncertain
The Champions Trophy 2025 might take place in Lahore, Karachi, or Rawalpindi. However, it’s not clear if India will join. Recent violence in Jammu & Kashmir has made it doubtful if the Indian government will allow the team to visit Pakistan. India had already pulled out of last year’s Asia Cup in Pakistan due to similar security issues.
Alternative Venue or Co-Hosting?
Because of the tensions, there might be discussions about moving the event to a different place or having it co-hosted by another country like the UAE or Sri Lanka. The ICC will decide on this after inspecting the proposed venues in Pakistan in September.
Other ICC Conference Events
During the five-day conference, there will be elections for new Associate Member Directors and awards given for outstanding performances. The election for Associate Member Directors will decide the ICC Board’s makeup for the next two years.
What To Expect From ICC Annual Conference in Colombo
On the first day, meetings will be held with Associate Members and Regional Representatives. On the second day, there will be meetings of the Associate Member Committee and a big meeting of the Chief Executive Committee, where top officials will discuss important issues.
Champions Trophy 2025 Discussions
Although not officially scheduled, informal talks about the Champions Trophy 2025 between Indian and Pakistani officials are expected. Members will also have a chance to raise other issues or ask questions about the tournament.
