Recently, Google Chrome had a big problem that caused passwords to disappear for about 15 million Windows users. This happened on July 24 and 25, affecting many different areas like hospitals, airlines, and banks.
The issue was linked to a change in how Google Chrome's Password Manager worked. This tool, used by over three million people to store and fill in passwords, stopped working properly in the M127 version of Chrome. Saved passwords became inaccessible, and users couldn't save new ones.
For almost 18 hours, users couldn’t use their stored passwords, which was very frustrating. Google suggested a temporary fix using a command-line flag to work around the issue. Eventually, Google fixed the problem, and users were told to restart their browsers to get everything working again.
Google apologized for the trouble caused. This incident raised concerns about the safety of online password managers since many people rely on them for important tasks. Experts recommend having backup plans and being careful with sensitive online information.
This glitch comes on the heels of another recent tech issue affecting businesses worldwide, highlighting the risks of our digital world.
