The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Yogi Adityanath, has updated its social media policy. This new rule affects Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube.
Strict Penalties for Offensive Content
- Anti-National Content: Posting content that is against the nation is now a serious crime. It can lead to severe penalties, including up to life imprisonment.
- Obscene or Defamatory Material: Sharing inappropriate or harmful content can result in criminal charges for defamation.
Handling Advertisements
- Digital Agency: A new agency named ‘V-Form’ will manage advertisements and content like videos, tweets, posts, and reels.
Payment Limits for Influencers
- X: Maximum payment is Rs 5 lakh per month.
- Facebook: Maximum payment is Rs 4 lakh per month.
- Instagram: Maximum payment is Rs 3 lakh per month.
- YouTube:
- Videos: Rs 8 lakh
- Shorts: Rs 7 lakh
- Podcasts: Rs 6 lakh
- Other Content: Rs 4 lakh
Government’s View
Cabinet minister Anil Rajbhar stated that the policy aims to address misuse of social media and also provides new opportunities for those working in digital media.
