Samsung recently launched new foldable phones, earbuds, wearables, and a smart ring at the Galaxy Unpacked event. But many people missed the announcement about a new XR headset.
Samsung did not show the XR headset at the event. However, TM Roh, the president of Samsung’s mobile division, mentioned that the company plans to release a mixed reality headset in the coming months.
Rick Osterloh, Google’s senior vice president, said, “We are working together to create next-generation experiences for Galaxy products like smartphones, wearables, and future technologies like the upcoming XR platform.”
TM Roh did not say exactly when the XR headset will be available, but rumors say it is almost ready. The new mixed reality headset might use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip or even the newer Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 3 chip.
Google is working with Samsung on the software for the XR headset, and Sony might supply the micro-OLED screens. It is not clear how much the XR headset will cost, but it may be similar in price to the Apple Vision Pro. We will have to wait for more details.
