Apple showed its first test version of iOS 18 with AI features at WWDC 2024. It will come to many iPhones later this year. Most of the new things in iOS 18 are for all iPhone users. But Apple also put in some things just for India. These include:
- Support for numbers in 12 Indian languages.
- Live voicemail writing.
- More control over dual SIM cards.
iPhones with iOS 18 will let people make custom contact posters and lock screens using numbers from languages like Arabic, Bangla, Devanagari, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Meitei, Odia, Ol Chiki, Telugu, and more. They can also turn voicemails into writing in Indian English and show who's calling in real-time.
Since the iPhone 11, Apple has let phones use two SIM cards with one physical SIM card and an eSIM. In iOS 18, Apple adds a special button to switch SIM cards in the new control center. This lets people change between two phone numbers quickly.
Siri in iOS 18 can understand Indian English mixed with languages like Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. The new translate app now supports Hindi and can translate everywhere, like in the Safari web browser and Notes app.
Apple also added other small things for India in iOS 18. This includes making keyboards for 11 Indian languages, and better searching in Assamese, Bangla, Devanagari, and Gujarati.
