Ankita Bhakat did really well recently and helped India get to the quarterfinals of the women’s recurve archery at the Paris Olympics 2024. She was the best archer from India, finishing 11th with 666 points. Deepika Kumari was 23rd with 658 points, and Bhajan Kaur was 22nd with 659 points.
India's total score was 1983 points, placing them 4th. They are now in the quarterfinals, along with South Korea, China, and Mexico. If Ankita hadn’t done so well, India would have had to compete in extra rounds.
Ankita had a standout year before the Olympics. Last year, she helped India win a bronze medal in the Asian Games by beating Vietnam. Last month, she qualified for Paris by reaching the quarterfinals at a World Archery event in Turkey, even though she lost in the final eight.
Ankita started archery when she was 10 at the Calcutta Archery Club and later trained at the Archery Academy in Jamshedpur. She hopes to help India win a medal in archery at the Olympics.
