Arshad Nadeem, a javelin thrower from Pakistan, has made history by winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. With an impressive throw of 92.97 meters, Nadeem not only won the top prize but also set a new Olympic record, surpassing the previous mark of 90.57 meters set in 2008. His achievement is particularly significant as it marks the first individual gold medal for Pakistan in 40 years.
During the competition, Nadeem edged out Neeraj Chopra, who won the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters. After the event, Neeraj's mother, Saroj Devi, affectionately said that Nadeem was like a son to her. In response, Nadeem expressed his gratitude, saying that he felt she was also like a mother to him. He appreciated her support and prayers, acknowledging the special bond shared between athletes from South Asia.
In recognition of his remarkable feat, the Pakistani government is honoring Nadeem with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the country's second-highest civilian award. Additionally, a commemorative stamp titled ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ will be issued to celebrate his achievement on Independence Day. President Asif Ali Zardari praised Nadeem's success, highlighting the national pride it brings.
