Google will soon bring out a new tool called Agricultural Landscape Understanding (ALU) to help farmers. This tool aims to give farmers better information to grow crops more effectively. It uses advanced technology like high-resolution satellite pictures and machine learning to understand fields better. It will help farmers know about things like water availability, market access, and preparing for droughts.
The ALU tool was announced at the Google I/O Connect event in Bengaluru. It will provide details on crop types, field sizes, water availability, and how easy it is to reach roads and markets. This tool was made with help from Anthro Krishi team and India’s AgriStack.
Google says this tool will solve many problems farmers face, from getting loans to growing more crops using AI and remote sensing to watch over farms all over India.
Besides Google, the government is also using AI to help farmers. They made Kisan-e-Mitra, a chatbot in many languages, so farmers can ask about PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and other government help.
They also started the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) to fight crop pests. It uses AI and machine learning to spot crop problems from photos and reports about rice and wheat.
Google also shared news about Indian languages. They started Project Vaani with the Indian Institute of Science. It collects a lot of speech data from many Indian languages. Google also launched IndicGenBench, a tool to test language models in 29 Indian languages.
They are also making the CALM tool to let people code in Indian languages more easily.
