Salim-Javed, the famous screenwriting pair from the 1970s, might be working together again. At the launch of their documentary series, Angry Young Men, Javed Akhtar hinted that they are thinking about writing another film together. He mentioned, “We are going to write the script now. I spoke to Salim about writing one more film together. We used to charge a lot back then, and we will charge even more now.”
Their last film was Mr. India, released in 1987, long after they had stopped working together. Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar are known for creating the 'angry young man' character in Indian cinema. This idea first appeared in their 1973 film Zanjeer, which helped Amitabh Bachchan become a major star. They also wrote hits like Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Majboor, and Haath Ki Safai. They were famous for delivering strong scripts and were among the highest-paid writers of their time.
In 1975, they hit the jackpot with Sholay and Deewaar. Both movies, starring Amitabh Bachchan, were huge successes and remain some of his most famous films. They also had hits like Trishul, Don, and Shaan. However, by the early 1980s, their partnership ended.
Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar have talked about their split in the past. They said outside influences played a role in their decision. Salim mentioned that Javed suggested they work separately, leading to Salim writing films and Javed focusing on lyrics.
