The movie "Emergency," a political drama, was supposed to come out on September 6, but it has been delayed due to growing controversies. Kangana Ranaut, the film's director and actor, said that the movie's approval was stopped because members of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) received threats. A new release date has not been announced yet.
Kangana shared a video on social media where she talked about the issues with getting her movie certified. She mentioned that even though the film was initially cleared, the certification was halted because of death threats to CBFC members. She said there was pressure not to show certain events, like the assassination of Indira Gandhi, Bhindranwale, and the Punjab riots in the movie. She expressed her disappointment with the situation.
The controversy began when the trailer for "Emergency" was released, showing Bhindranwale, a leader of the Khalistan movement, supposedly making a deal with Indira Gandhi’s party. This led to the Shiromani Akali Dal's Delhi unit sending a legal notice to the CBFC, demanding the movie's release be stopped, claiming it misrepresented Sikhs.
The movie, directed by Kangana, features actors like Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik. Initially planned for a November 2023 release, it was first postponed to June 2024, then to September 6, 2024, and now, it has been delayed again.
