Hemant Soren became the Chief Minister of Jharkhand again today after a series of events starting in January. He had resigned then just before he could be arrested for a land fraud case. In June, he got bail from the High Court which said there was no clear proof he was directly involved in the fraud.

He took oath as Chief Minister at 5 pm at Raj Bhavan. His father, Shibu Soren, a former Chief Minister and leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, was there too. Before taking oath, Hemant Soren met his father and took his blessings.

Earlier, there were reports that he would be sworn in on Sunday.

Five months ago, Hemant Soren resigned as Chief Minister at Raj Bhavan to avoid being arrested. He did this amidst a dramatic situation.

Before his oath ceremony today, he posted a video message on X, criticizing powerful people (referring to BJP) who tried to silence him. He said, "Today, the people of Jharkhand will rise again. Jai Jharkhand, Jai Hind."

It was expected that Hemant Soren would come back as the Chief Minister of the state.

Champai Soren, a senior leader of JMM, was supposed to replace Hemant Soren but stepped down. He showed his disappointment openly. At the JMM's meeting, Champai Soren said he felt insulted.
