Early Life

Kunal Kamra is an Indian stand-up comedian and political satirist. He was born and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He completed his schooling in Mumbai and later attended Jai Hind College. However, he dropped out in his second year.

Before becoming a comedian, Kunal worked in advertising. He spent many years working in a well-known advertising agency. But he was not happy with his job. He wanted to do something creative and different.

In 2013, he performed his first stand-up comedy show. He realized that making people laugh was his true passion. So, he decided to become a full-time comedian.

Career in Comedy

Kunal Kamra became famous for his bold and fearless comedy. He talks about politics, society, and everyday life in his jokes. He does not hesitate to criticize politicians and powerful people.

In 2017, he started a YouTube show called "Shut Up Ya Kunal." On this show, he invited politicians, journalists, and activists. They discussed important political and social issues in a funny way. The show became very popular. Many people liked his unique way of mixing humor with serious topics.

1. Confrontation with Arnab Goswami (2020)

One of Kunal Kamra’s most famous controversies happened in January 2020. He confronted journalist Arnab Goswami during a flight. Kamra questioned Goswami about his style of journalism. He recorded the incident and shared it on social media.

After this, IndiGo Airlines banned Kunal Kamra from flying for six months. Other airlines like Air India, SpiceJet, and GoAir also banned him. Many people supported Kamra, but some criticized him for his actions.

2. Child Rights Controversy (2020)

In May 2020, Kunal Kamra shared an edited video of a child singing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Germany. In the edited video, he replaced the original song with "MehengayiDaayan" from the movie Peepli Live.

The child’s father complained that Kamra was using his son for political jokes. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) asked Kamra to delete the video. Kamra later removed the post and said he did not mean to mock the child.

3. Remarks on the Supreme Court (2020)

In 2020, Kunal Kamra made a controversial comment about the Supreme Court of India. He said that the court was controlled by "baniya-brahmins." Many people found this statement offensive.

A petition was filed against him, and some people wanted contempt of court charges against him. However, Kamra refused to apologize. He said that as a comedian, he had the right to express his opinions.

4. Middle Finger to Chief Justice (2020)

In another controversy, Kunal Kamra posted a picture on social media. In this post, he showed his middle finger to the then Chief Justice of India, Sharad Arvind Bobde.

Many people found this disrespectful. Attorney General KK Venugopal allowed contempt proceedings against him. But Kamra stood by his statement and did not apologize.

5. Salman Khan Controversy (2024)

Kunal Kamra recently made jokes about Bollywood actor Salman Khan. In one of his shows, he talked about Khan’s past legal cases.

Reports said that Salman Khan was planning to file a defamation case against Kamra. But Kamra responded that he would not apologize for his jokes.

6. Show Cancellation by VHP (2022)

In September 2022, Kunal Kamra’s show in Gurugram was canceled. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal threatened to protest against him.

Kamra later wrote an open letter to the VHP. He challenged them to denounce Nathuram Godse, who killed Mahatma Gandhi. He also asked them to prove that he had ever insulted Hinduism.

Recent Controversy (2025) – Eknath Shinde Remark

In 2025, Kunal Kamra made a remark against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He called Shinde a "traitor" in his new comedy special "Naya Bharat."

After this, members of Shinde’s political party vandalized The Habitat comedy club in Mumbai, where Kamra’s show was filmed. The club had to close temporarily due to the damage.

An FIR (police case) was also registered against Kamra. Many people supported his right to free speech, while others criticized him for his words.
