At the G7 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni happily posed for a new selfie, following last year's viral #Melodi trend that broke the internet. This marked their second selfie together, the first being at the COP28 Summit in 2023, which Meloni shared on her official X handle with the hashtag Melodi.
Caught on camera was the camaraderie between the two prime ministers. Meloni received PM Modi, and both leaders greeted each other with namaste gestures. Following a brief conversation, both leaders smiled while exchanging pleasantries.
PM Modi participated in his fifth consecutive G7 summit, with India having attended the past ten summits. Italy, chairing the G7, hosted the gathering of the bloc of seven major economies, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union.
On Friday, a bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Meloni took place, focusing on defence and security cooperation discussions between their nations.
"In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs mentioned that bilateral defence and security cooperation were discussed by the two sides, with hopes for further enhancing collaboration in defence industries. They also welcomed the upcoming visit later this year of the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and training ship ITS Vespucci to India."
