Akshata Murty watched as her husband, Rishi Sunak, gave his last speech outside the prime minister's office in Downing Street. Just a few hours earlier, Rishi Sunak’s party had lost badly to the Labour Party. While people were talking about the UK election result and the future of Britain, they were also talking (and joking) about the dress Akshata Murty wore during her husband's resignation speech.
Her blue, white, and red patterned dress became a hot topic. Some people commented on the color, others on the pattern, and some even talked about the price of the dress.
One social media user joked about the pattern, saying, “Akshata Murty's dazzling camouflage breaks up her shape against the background, making it difficult for German U-boats to find her range, speed, and direction.”
Another said, “Akshata Murty’s dress is a stereogram and if you squint long enough, you can see an airplane leaving for California.”
One more person joked, “Akshata Murty's dress is also a QR code that gets you a Disneyland fast pass.”
The dress costs 395 pounds (Rs 42,000).
For those who don't know, Rishi Sunak is the richest person to have been the UK prime minister. His wife, Akshata Murty, is the daughter of billionaire Narayana Murthy, the founder of the tech company Infosys. According to the Sunday Times’ 2024 Rich List, they are the wealthiest people to live at No. 10 Downing Street, with an estimated fortune of 651 million pounds ($815 million).
Sharp-eyed internet users also noticed the umbrella in Murty’s hand and had a lot to say about that too.
