NASA has issued an important warning about a large asteroid called 2024 JV33. This asteroid, which is about 620 feet wide, similar in size to a big building is expected to come closest to Earth in August. It will pass by at around 2,850,000 miles.

Asteroid 2024 JV33 is part of a group known as Apollo asteroids, which often cross Earth’s path. It travels through space very quickly, at about 24,779 miles per hour. Although it will be closer to us than usual, it’s still three times farther away than the Moon. This distance is important enough for NASA to keep a close watch on it.

Even though 2024 JV33 is far away, it’s classified as a near-Earth object (NEO). This means it’s important to track it carefully. NASA, along with other space agencies, uses advanced telescopes and computers to monitor these objects. They pay extra attention to NEOs that come within 7.5 million kilometers of Earth and are larger than 460 feet (140 meters). The Centre for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) at NASA oversees tracking these asteroids to ensure we know about any potential space dangers and can be prepared for them.
