Jyoti Malhotra, a popular social media influencer known for her travel content, has recently been arrested in Hisar, Haryana. She is being accused of spying for Pakistan and sharing sensitive information. Her arrest has shocked her followers and made headlines across the country. Authorities claim that she has links with Pakistani intelligence operatives and was involved in promoting a positive image of Pakistan on social media platforms.
Who is Jyoti Malhotra?
Jyoti Malhotra is from Hisar, Haryana. She runs a travel-based YouTube channel named "Travel with Jo." She started the channel in 2011 and had gained a large following with over 381,000 subscribers and 487 videos. Her travel vlogs include trips to countries like Bangladesh and Bhutan. In her bio, she describes herself as a “Nomadic Leo Girl” and a “Wanderer Haryanvi Punjabi.” Her content was mostly about her travel experiences, food, and culture from different places.
Charges Against Her
Jyoti was arrested under serious laws by the Hisar police. She has been booked under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Official Secrets Act and Section 152 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections are related to sharing or collecting secret information that could be harmful to the country.
According to the police, she was involved in spreading sensitive information to Pakistani officials. An FIR filed in Hisar states that she came into contact with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish, who worked at the Pakistan High Commission in India. This official had already been declared “persona non grata” by the Ministry of External Affairs for engaging in activities that were beyond his job role.
Alleged Pakistan Connection
Malhotra's connection with Pakistani officials became public when she attended an Iftar party at the Pakistan High Commission. In one of her vlogs, she is seen warmly greeting Ehsan-ur-Rahim, suggesting they knew each other well. She also praised the event and its arrangements in her video. This vlog was considered by many as a sign of her close ties with Pakistan.
Early Warnings Ignored
Interestingly, a man named Kapil Jain had warned the authorities a year before her arrest. In May 2024, he posted on X (formerly Twitter), tagging the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and asking them to keep an eye on Jyoti. He pointed out that she had attended a Pakistani embassy event and later traveled to Kashmir, suggesting that her actions might be suspicious. He even included a screenshot of her YouTube page to support his claim.
International Travel and Fake Contacts
Further investigations revealed that Jyoti Malhotra had visited Pakistan twice in 2023. During her trips, she allegedly met individuals named Ali Ehwan, Shakir, and Rana Shahbaz, who are believed to be Pakistani intelligence operatives.
To hide her communications, she saved their contact numbers under fake names like “Jatt Randhawa.” She also reportedly traveled to Bali, Indonesia, with one of the Pakistani agents, raising more suspicion about her involvement in the espionage network.
If proven guilty, she could face strict punishment under the Official Secrets Act and BNS. Her case also raises concerns about how social media platforms can sometimes be misused for dangerous activities. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the full truth behind her alleged connections with Pakistan.
